The Average Black Girl: Black History Month

Some of my friends in the past have asked me, “Why do you celebrate Black History Month?” The question in itself has made me question why they would even ask me.. But here a little history:

The history of its celebrations dates back to 1926 when it was celebrated for one week. It wasn’t until 1976 when it was extended for an entire month. Carter Godwin Woodson is the Founder of Negro History Week, which later became Black History Month.

Okay, now that you have a little perspective, lets get back to the question at hand. Why do I celebrate Black History Month?
