7 Things Chicago Moms Should Do Before School Starts (Besides Buying School Supplies)

Why this matters

School starts in just a few weeks for Chicago Public Schools (August 24 for K–12), and families are beginning to shift from summer routines to the school year. CPS has also reminded families to complete required forms, check school hours, and take advantage of free breakfast and lunch programs.

1. Reset your family’s routine

Don’t wait until the night before school.

2. Check on your child’s emotional health

Ask:

“How are you feeling about going back?”

3. Review transportation

Bus
Walking
Carpool
CTA

4. Complete school paperwork

5. Create one healthy morning habit

6. Set one family goal

Examples:

  • Less yelling
  • More family dinners
  • Reading together
  • Earlier bedtime

7. Don’t forget yourself

The first week is emotional for moms too.
