Kings Lesson to Us All: Serve others even when life seems hard

Martin Luther King said, “Not everybody can be famous, but everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service.”

I think we’ve all known an old grandma or lady on your block that no matter what, if you needed anything, you could always reach out to her… get a hot cooked meal… receive a nice warm hug.. No matter what. Boy, do I sometimes long for those community days where everyone on the street looked out for each other. Well, times have changed, but it doesn’t mean that you have to change with them.

I remember my grandmother telling me that you have to create your own community and you have to never forget to serve and give to others. Moreso, I believe that during the worst of times in your life, that is when you need to do something for another person out of the goodness of your heart. We all have something to give (and it doesnt have to be financial.) When life get’s a bit tricky for me, thats when I ramp up my blessings to other people. Thats when I get motivated to serve others.

I want to challenge each of you to focus on doing something in January ans Feburary for someone else. Adopt a family, pay it forward, buy some groceries, sponsor a kid, raise funds for someone in need. Whatever you decide to do, do it with gladness, joy and thankfulness in your heart.

Life can present its challenges, but guess what, You are still here, you are still breathing, you can still make a difference in another’s world. And guess what, you will be a better person for it.

Can’t wait to hear what you’ve done to pay it forward and serve another!
