As we kicked off Black Maternal Health Week, we at Urban Mommy Inc. are dedicated to raising awareness about the urgent disparities in maternal health that Black women face. From April 11-17, we will shine a spotlight on these critical issues, advocating for change in a system that has historically neglected the needs of Black mothers and their families.
Statistics reveal a staggering reality: Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women, and nearly 60% of maternal deaths among Black women are preventable. These alarming figures highlight the necessity of open dialogue and action. That’s why we’ve created a comprehensive resource page at urbanmommyinc.org/arizona/black-maternal-health-care/ (https://urbanmommyinc.org/arizona/black-maternal-health-care/) where mothers can access valuable information about prenatal and postnatal care, mental health support, and holistic resources tailored to their unique needs.
At Urban Mommy, we are committed to not only raising awareness but also taking action. As direct supporters of the Momnibus Act—important legislation aimed at addressing the systemic issues impacting maternal health care for Black women—we are proud to promote policies that foster equity in health care access.
Additionally, initiatives like our I Make Humans campaign empower mothers to share their stories and experiences, creating a supportive community that uplifts one another.
This Black Maternal Health Week, we invite you to join us in advocating for equitable health care and empowering mothers to take charge of their health. Together, we can break down barriers and create a future where every Black mother has access to the care and support she deserves. Let’s amplify our voices and make a real difference!
