Monique Norington- Joseph, M.S.

Speaker | Author | Advocate | Founder of UrbanMommy Inc.

Monique Norington Joseph is a nationally recognized speaker, author, and advocate dedicated to women’s empowerment and early childhood education. Known for her ability to connect with audiences through honesty, passion, and purpose, Monique has spent her career amplifying voices, building movements, and creating pathways for families to thrive.

At the heart of Monique’s work is a commitment to allyship and equity. She has devoted over two decades to uplifting women, advancing early childhood education, and ensuring that underrepresented communities have access to resources and opportunities that foster growth, learning, and belonging.

Her journey as a leader began early, earning the 2006 Dr. Barbara Sizemore Leadership and Service Award and recognition as a Vincentian Fellow. These experiences instilled in her a lifelong commitment to service rooted in the Vincentian mission to stand with and for marginalized communities. In 2008, she launched The Marque Group, LLC, a strategic communications firm that served private, nonprofit, and government sectors, representing leaders in entertainment, politics, and business. Her work in communications earned multiple awards and established her as a trusted advisor across industries.

As an organizer and community builder, Monique has launched new initiatives, founded business organizations in Portland, Oregon, and created the Society of Leaders Emerging (SOLE) for high school students. She also served on numerous boards and committees, shaping policies that supported small business growth and community development. In 2012, she was nominated and elected as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention representing Oregon, further amplifying her advocacy for equity, families, and education.

Her passion deepened after becoming a mother in 2013. Recognizing the need for community, resources, and support for new mothers, Monique founded UrbanMommy Inc., an online platform dedicated to healthy family lifestyles, early literacy, and community empowerment. Her leadership in this space earned her national recognition, including a nomination for the 2016 White House Change Maker Award.

In 2017, Monique expanded her impact by launching Joseph House Books and publishing her first children’s book. Through her writing, she advocates for literacy, representation, and the importance of instilling self-love, education, and resilience in children. Her mission is clear: to ensure that every child — regardless of race, income, or geography — has access to quality education and the opportunity to thrive.

Today, Monique continues to speak nationally on issues of women’s empowerment, diversity in education, and family advocacy. She is a sought-after voice on panels, conferences, and community stages, inspiring audiences with her powerful blend of storytelling, strategy, and vision.

Monique resides in the Chicagoland area with her daughter, who remains her greatest inspiration. Together, they embody the values of strength, education, and love that guide Monique’s work. Whether through her books, advocacy, or speaking engagements, she is steadfast in her mission: her work is not finished until the playing field is even for all women, children, and families.
