Community Leader…Educator. These are words that describe Dr. Marva Hall.
Marva is a giver. She is self-less beyond measure and full of wit, grit and integrity.
She recently earned her PhD in Higher Education Leadership, she is an accomplished professional with over 15 years of experience in education, community and government relations in Chicago. She believes that when students, families and community come together to grow and learn, change happens, and legacy are created.
School provided Marva with much more education than what was written in textbooks. For Marva education is about preparing the next generation of leaders and scholars to collaborate and enhance the quality of life in our world. It is her passion that led her to complete multiple degrees in education, volunteer as leader of children’s ministry and serve on several community organization advisory boards.
Dr. Marva achieves her life goal of positively impacting the educational quality in urban areas. Starting with Chicago, she has worked to provide enrichment opportunities for youth through city agency collaboration. As Liaison to Government Agencies, Dr. Hall has coordinated the expansion of adult education to over 20 community organizations and developed a quarterly legislative data briefing for local and state elected officials. It is clear to Marva that community partnerships are an integral part of the success in urban areas, it is especially important to the educational success and advancement of the community residents. Marva has over 10 years of experience in education, from early childhood to adjunct professor.
As a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. she has served as Scholarship, Sisterly Relations and Public Relations chairman. As a member, and later, as an employee of the McNair Scholars Program, Marva has had the unique opportunity to assist in guiding students toward scholarly research and professors in the fields that interests them. Marva was recognized as an “above standard” quality women leaders by the Young Women’s Professional League in 2017.
As Dr. Marva continues create and discover her future she realized that education was her vehicle to discover and create new opportunities. H. Jackson Brown’s quote has become her philosophy: “Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do.” Marva strives to extend education beyond the classroom, working with local elected officials and community organization to create comprehensive community programming to students and families.
It is her passion for education and service that her to develop, Protect Her Destiny and M’Vising. Protect her destiny is the place that you come to get the tools that you need to fulfill the destiny that God has called you to! Protect Her Destiny provides weekly devotions and prayers for women of God, women in ministry and spouses of ministers. PHD (Protecting Her Destiny) is a platform for women. As women we often wear many outfits (wife, mother, executive, student, etc) but we must learn to Protect Our Destiny by creating a legacy.
M’Vising provides consulting and mentoring with a biblical foundation, “Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed” (Proverbs 15:22 MSG). M’Vising delivers thesis and dissertation coaching and editing services to graduate students from coursework to completion.
For Dr. Smith, it takes more than a school to provide an education to students and more than books to teach them. It takes more than a parent to raise children and more than a teacher to educate them. Dr. Hall works with the community as an advocate, providing a more complete support system for children and more opportunities for community change.
She married, Rev. Mark Anthony Smith on July 28, 2018! She is a PhD, a wife, an educator, a woman of God and an inspiration.
